Uganda Chicken Co-Op: Empowering Through Sustainable Farming
Scripture commands caring for widows and orphans as a core expression of true faith; providing for their needs, defending them, and ensuring justice. This duty includes practical care, protecting them from exploitation, and meeting basic needs, reflecting Yahweh’s own heart for the vulnerable.
This project establishes the Uganda Chicken Co-Op, a mission-driven, community-operated initiative that equips widows and single mothers with the ability to build lasting food security and income. Rather than creating dependency, the co-op trains members to raise chickens, produce eggs, generate fertilizer, and develop small businesses that serve their community.
Built on biblical principles of stewardship, dignity, and empowerment, the co-op prioritizes widows and vulnerable households. Each member contributes to the cycle, benefits from the work of their hands, and helps establish a sustainable local economy with products that can be sold to markets, hotels, and restaurants.
How the Co-Op Works
1. Training & Start-Up
A trusted community member receives training, chicks, feed, and a prepared space to launch their small poultry business.
2. Raising & Producing
Families raise chickens for eggs, meat, and new chicks. The system functions like interlocking gears, keeping the program growing while providing food and income.
3. Fertilizer Production
Manure is composted into organic fertilizer for farms and gardens. Caretakers can sell it locally, creating an additional source of income.
4. Expansion & Multiplication
Once established, Ugandan overseers select a new widow or single mom to join. Every person becomes a link in a growing chain of training, production, and support.
This simple cycle produces eggs, meat, fertilizer, business training, and dignified work, while reducing poverty and dependency.
Testimony from Uganda
“Yes for this great project through Evangel Church ministry, it can be a great achievement for single ladies, in way that they can lay the chickens, goats, for sustaining for themselves. If Yashuah has provided, all things will work our good.”
